Badminton Tournament - Gator Swing 2010

Hey everyone,

At the end of this month we will be having our semesterly badminton tournament - Gator Swing 2010!

Attached you will find the entry form as well as additional information on the tournament.

IT IS OPEN TO ALL AGE GROUPS AND ALL LEVELS OF PLAYERS! This tournament is a great way to get in some competitive games whatever your skill level is. As such we have asked you to indicate this on the entry form.

Please note that because of time constraints, we will be limiting entries to just two categories (e.g. singles and mixed doubles).

The registration deadline is Thursday October 28, 2010. Please stick to this so that we can organize all the matches efficiently. We will also be inviting players across the state so it will be a great chance to meet badminton players from other school and other parts of the country.

4th meeting for FACSS American Cultural Exchange Program

Hello FACSS members!

Just a reminder, that American Cultural Exchange Program will be meeting, this Thursday at the Reitz Union #361-363 at our usual meeting time, 7-9PM.

We have a stimulating learning activity planned, and we’ll have some time for you to have free conversation with your new friends.

Be sure to invite and encourage your language partners to attend. We need their support at the meetings. Your experience will be as good as your efforts to make it special.

FACSS American Cultural Program

After successfully collaborated with us in FACSS American Cultural Program, UF Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures decided to further the collaboration. All of our FACSS members who are interested in communicating with American students are invited to join their 'Conversation Hour'.

2010 FACSS卡拉OK比赛启事

你想在UF的校园里一展歌喉么？想在Gators的舞台上大放光彩么？想在甘城华人圈挑战自我么？…… 无论你的答案为“是”或“YES”， 都请积极踊跃抓住这次难得的机会，来报名参加FACSS一年一度的卡拉OK 大赛！

本次卡拉OK将改进以往形式，以更时尚的方式为参赛者创造一个展现自我的平台，以更娱乐的视角为观众提供一次视听享受的盛宴。先诚邀甘城各路歌唱家音乐迷麦霸控等豪杰精英报名，一同打造这个卡拉OK大赛。

本次活动分为初赛和决赛两阶段，初赛将根据报名人数，于10月2日（周六）举行，决定进入决赛的选手名单，表演曲目和出场顺序。决赛将于 2010年10月9日，在Reitz Union Ball Room举办。届时欢迎大家前往观看。

我们将一如既往地秉持兼容并包的原则，形式不限，歌曲不限，尽量为表演者提供最好的发挥空间。热情期待你的参与！

Second meeting of American Cultural Program

Volleyball FIRST meetup

For those of you who have been working so hard for this week, You deserve a rest !

This week is our first meetup as a volleyball group, a group for anyone in Gainesville who loves to play volleyball. Hopefully from now on, we will meet for indoor or beach v-ball on a weekly basis. All you really need to bring are yourself, for a long or as short a time you can play and your Gator 1 Card if you are a UF student.

围棋是中国传统四艺“琴棋书画”之一，我们甘城围棋协会创办不久，隶属于美国围棋协会，致力于传播和发扬这项具有悠久历史的华夏文化遗产。各位在繁忙的学习工作之余，是否有想过要静静地坐下，与好友一起感受着习习微风、享受一小会难得的心静？暂时忘却烦恼，端坐于纹秤一边，沉浸于黑白世界，或许可以成为一个很好的选择

这个学期 我们协会的活动时间是每周日下午1点开始 在Reitz Union Food Court 如果您在围棋上早有小成 我们协会里有业余5段的高手可以与您过招 如果您还没学过围棋 我们也会非常高兴从头教起 我们协会里有来自世界各地的热爱围棋的会员 期待您的加入

开学已经3周了，想必大家都在忙于各自的学习吧。为了给大家提供一个新老生见面和相识的机会，帮助新来的同学们尽快地融入我们甘村的生活，中国学生学者联 谊会（FACSS）将在9月11日（周六），在Lake Wauburg North Shore举行新老生联欢和聚餐活动。 大家可以在相互认识之后，使用你的Gator 1 ID 在Lake Wauburg North Shore可以免费划船，游泳等。如果你有兴趣，也可以去South Shore玩高尔夫球，踢足球，沙滩排球，和攀岩等活动。欢迎新老同学全来参加！

After Game BBQ

All the Chinese Gators in Business,

Come and join us in our first event this semester, after-game BBQ, in Tanglewood common room. BBQ and drinks will be provided as usual, we also have in the room table tennis, pool table, foosball and possibly Karaoke. All you need to bring is a delighted mood 'coz we're so gonna win the game and 5 dollars for the food. So why wait, come to meet more friends, enjoy the food and talk about the game.

Simply get off at Tanglewood Apartment via RTS Route 13 if you don't have a ride. Since it's game day, traffic would be super heavy around 4pm to 4:30pm along 13th St, University Ave and Museum Rd, so try to avoid these roads, take a detour along Williston Rd or 16th St.

FACSS American Culture Program is Kicking-Off!

Dr. Peng will tell us about his experiences learning English and adjusting to life in America

Dr. Peng Yong, M.D., Phd., Associate Professor, Depts. Of Anesthesiology and Surgery; Director, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship Program & Perioperative Esophageal Ecocardiology, Shands Hospital, University of Florida, will be our guest speaker.

Dr. Peng will tell us of his experiences since his arrival at UF. Beginning with only a basic knowledge of the English language, in time Dr. Peng earned numerous awards for his teaching skills. Come listen and discover what he has learned while adjusting to life in America.

为了欢迎大家的到来，帮助大家尽快适应甘城的学习生活，FACSS 将在2010年8月13日（周五）晚7点在UF的Reitz Union Grand Ballroom举办2010中国新生欢迎大会（2010FACSS Newcomer Orientation）。

迎新会主旨为帮助大家更早更全面地了解UF，体验UF的gator精神，使大家更快更好地融入新的环境，认识更多朋友，以迎接即将展开的UF留学生活。届 时将由UFIC发言人和FACSS成员等就海外学习，UF文化，安全健康，和娱乐购物等问题向大家进行详细介绍。希望大家能够踊跃参加，FACSS将向每 位参与新生送上精美的欢迎礼包！此外，大会还会提供点心饮料。
